Collège De La Salle Promotion66: search warrant released...avis de recherche.
The “Collège de la Salle” last posting on this Blog – dated Sunday April 02, 2006 – shouldn’t have been titled “Suite et fin”. In fact, “Suite SANS fin” would have been a much more appropriate headline.
This article – with the photographs and documents included in it – triggered substantial interest as it coincided with a group of classmates’ visit to the Collège and their decision to organize a reunion in Cairo this fall marking the 40th Anniversary of the 1966 graduates.
The “Promotion 66” project led by Sherif, is now well under way and the date of November 2nd. has been set. A meeting of the organizers has already taken place in Sherif’s office on May 13 (see picture below) and another meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, June 7 at the Collège in Daher.
Left to right, sitting: Assaf, Gaafar, Wassef.
Standing: Abu Raya, Rizkallah, Sayegh, Eid, Rouchdy, Behery, Taza, Bassili, Arakelian.
The list of classmates is quickly expanding and we now need everyone’s support and effort in reaching as many potential participants as possible. The criteria are simple: anyone who attended the Collège de la Salle in Cairo and who either graduated in 1966 – or would have graduated that same year – is invited. As a reminder, bear in mind that we were an average of 40 students per class with 6 or 7 classes. With all of us scattered around the globe in no less than twenty countries, the task of building the list is phenomenal. That’s why everyone’s help is truly welcome. All you have to do is write to Sherif at: wassef@idsc.net.eg and communicate to him names and full contact details (including e-mail addresses) of anyone you know who fits the criteria above.
Beyond the immense pleasure of seeing each other in Cairo after all these years, the organizing committee is putting together a superb agenda for the 2 to 3 days event. This includes:
A welcome gala dinner at a major hotel in Cairo
School tour including lunch from the cafeteria (like in the old days…)
Cairo city tour and visit of key landmarks around Cairo
An optional extension of the event to a resort destination such as Sharm-El-Sheikh is also being considered
As we do not think of this event merely as “a walk down memory lane”, (Nostalgic? who, me?) we would also like to use the opportunity of our gathering to promote an optional contribution to a charity organization in Egypt, most probably under the auspices of the “Amicale des Anciens Élèves du Collège de la Salle”.
Voilà! I hope that we will all make the effort of spreading the good news, of marking those dates in our busy agendas, of convincing our wives to join us (tell them it should be great fun; we’re all nice guys – really) and in the meantime, I count on you to communicate to Sherif all contacts of colleagues you’re in touch with.
À très bientôt camarades!
